Half Black Veil Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)
Bring a touch of dramatic elegance to your aquarium with the Half Black Veil Angelfish. This stunning domestic variant of the classic Pterophyllum scalare is celebrated for two distinct features: its striking coloration and its breathtaking finnage. The front half of the body boasts a shimmering silver hue, which sharply transitions into a deep, velvety black on the rear half. This high-contrast pattern is perfectly complemented by the "veil" trait—exceptionally long, flowing dorsal, anal, and tail fins that trail beautifully as the fish glides through the water. Hardy, intelligent, and visually spectacular, the Half Black Veil Angelfish makes an unforgettable centerpiece for any peaceful community or planted aquarium.
Half black Veil Angelfish Key Features
Striking Two-Toned Pattern: Features a unique "half and half" coloration, with a bright silver front that abruptly shifts to a solid dark/black rear.
Flowing Veil Fins: Boasts gorgeous, elongated finnage that adds a sense of graceful movement and grandeur to your tank.
Hardy Domestic Strain: Bred for both beauty and resilience, making them highly adaptable and easier to care for than wild-caught specimens.
Personable & Intelligent: Known to recognize their owners and eagerly greet them at the front of the tank during feeding time.
Show-Stopping Centerpiece: Their tall profile and trailing fins command attention in any aquatic display.
Half black Veil Angelfish Care Requirements
Tank Size: A 29-gallon or 30-gallon "tall" tank is the absolute minimum for a young pair. A 55-gallon or larger is highly recommended for adults to prevent their long fins from dragging or getting damaged.
Water Temperature: 76–82°F (24–28°C)
pH Range: 6.0–7.4 (Highly adaptable, but prefers clean, well-filtered water).
Diet: Omnivorous. They thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and frequent supplements of frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
Tank Mates: Keep with peaceful, medium-sized community fish. Excellent tank mates include Corydoras, larger Tetras (like Black Skirt or Rummy Nose), and peaceful bottom-dwellers. Crucial: Strictly avoid fin-nipping fish (such as Tiger Barbs or Serpae Tetras) that will target their long, delicate veil fins.
